*Production starts for Sustainable Bamboo Bikes in Ghana. It will be interesting to know the end price.
* Explored the economics and suitability of bamboo bicycles. Contacted experts around the world. A bamboo bicycle, as per resources at IIT Delhi, can cost about 60% of normal bicycle in India, at the same time having sufficient durability under normal operating conditions. Keeping a close eye on the project by 'The Earth Institute, Columbia University' in Ghana, where mass production of such bicycles is being planned.
* Gave copies of the concept report to Mr. Arun Jaitley of thduring his election campaigning. - Mid March
* Gave a slide presentation to Centre for Civil Society, a leading NGO in the field of public policy research,at New Delhi. The biggest challenge identified as developing a model that makes reduction of bicycle price practically feasible for the govt. - March 05, 2009
* Personally met and gave copies of the concept report to Mr. S. M. Krishna, former chief minister, Karnataka. He appreciated the concept and promised to look deeper into the subject and forward his recommendations to the govt. - February 2009
* Sent copies of the report through email to about 150 intellectuals of the country, including people in Planning Commission, Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, National Institute for Public Finance and Policy, Finance Ministry, Rural Development Ministry, NGOs and various political parties. Many of them replied appreciating the concept and the initiative. -January 2009
